Part-time Teacher
Appletree Learning Centre is an expanding, busy, fast-paced learning centre with locations in Etobicoke and Milton. We specialize in providing academic remediation to children with identified learning disabilities, and those having difficulty meeting grade level expectations. Our approach uses evidence-based programming (e.g., SRA Direct Instruction (DI), JUMP Math, etc.) and is delivered in a warm and supportive environment. All instruction at Appletree is one-on-one, and we offer both in-person and online sessions.
Who we are looking for:
As a team of dynamic educators, we are looking for part-time Ontario Certified Teachers (OCTs) for our Etobicoke and Milton locations. We strive to maintain our reputation with our clients through a workplace culture that is built on trust, as such, we are looking for candidates that have a proven track record of being reliable, trustworthy, and dependable. All teaching materials and comprehensive paid training in DI programming will be provided. Teaching hours are available Monday to Friday from 4:00 pm or 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Requirements for the position are:
An Ontario Certified Teacher who is kind, patient, committed, flexible and motivated (OCT certification is required)
A reliable and dependable individual that is punctual and will maintain good attendance
A commitment through the 2024-2025 school year
Applicants must be available to teach a minimum of 2 evenings per week
A quick leaner who is comfortable teaching scripted programs that teach skills explicitly and directly
Excellent command of the English language, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
The ability to multi-task
Excellent time management skills
The ability to teach math up to grade 6, and to students who are performing significantly below grade level
Assets for the position are:
Special Education qualifications, or experience working with students with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD
Experience teaching DI reading programs, or experience working with emergent readers
Experience teaching math up to grade 8
Experience teaching paragraph and essay writing to junior/intermediate students
